Fig Tree - When can I harvest the Fruit?

I have a fruiting fig tree in my garden. The fruit is already quite large. When will I know when it is ready to pick and eat? Can I eat the whole fruit after removing the skin. Any suggestions for recipes?

Fig Tree - When can I harvest the Fruit?
Figs are usually ready to eat mid to late august.

They become quite soft to touch and may even begin to burst on the tree!

To eat, you dont need to peel, the skin is very soft and sweet.

Have them freshly picked for breakfast with some honey!

Just remember to wash them first.

Mmmmmmm!
Reply:When they ripen and turn purple.
Reply:Fig jam is super...and so are peeled sliced figs soaked in a splash of sherry wine finished off with whipped cream for a party dessert. Black figs or yellow figs, both are tasty for eating "out of hand" or jammed if you get too many all at once.
