How do they get the figs into fig rolls?

I think they put out a huge, long line of dough. Then they put the fig

on the dough. After that, I believe that they get a slightly bigger piece of dough over that. Then they fold the excess dough around the fig filling and after that they cut the extra excess off.

when that s done they cut the long dough and fig tube and that is how(i think) they get the fig inside the fig roll.

How do they get the figs into fig rolls?
When I was a child in Ireland there was an ad campaign that answered this very question

JIm Figgerty put the figs into fig rolls
Reply:the same way they get the cream into creamcrackers
Reply:rap the pastry aroiund the fig before cooking?
Reply:They push the figs down pastry hills
Reply:How do you make a fig roll?

Push it down a hill.
Reply:The real question is how do they get the biscuit round the figs.
Reply:Do you not remember the tv ad for fig rolls? Jim Figgerty put the figs in fig roll, true! :)
Reply:You mean like Fig Newtons? They make fig preserves, and squirt it onto the dough before wrapping and baking it.
Reply:They squash'em. If you go to the factory, there's loads of barefoot oompa-loompas jumping up and down on them to make them in to a fine puree.
Reply:First they give the figs the last rites and then take them to the gallows. They are hung there until dead. Then they are mashed to a pulp by being placed under a massive hammer. Then the pulp is ground down further by being squeezed between two ten tonne rollers. The resulting mush is then made into strips whereby it is placed on a sheet of pastry and rolled. The rolls are cut into small chunks which are cooked.

Sometimes if you listen hard you can hear the figs crying.

Fig rights forever, man.
Reply:I don't know but I love em.
Reply:I dont know but wish they wouldnt do it!!! YUK YUK YUK!

In case this is a bad idea for any reason, please say so.

Where can I get a cheap, decent fig tree online?
If you are growing your fig in zone 7 or colder you should place the tree in front of a southern wall or fence where winter sun can warm it. This will help a lot.

Obviously my basement was not cold enough as I have about 20 figs in the tree(no leaves) . What should I do for the rest of the winter and will this ruin the summer crop?

YOU PROBABLY LIVE IN A COLD AREA.

THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IF YOU COVER YOUR FIG TREE AND KEEP IT BY YOUR HOUSE AWAY FROM COLD WINDS, MAYBE YOU CAN TAKE IT OUTSIDE. JUDT SOUTH OD THE LONG ISALND SOUND,LONG ISLAND HAS MANY FIGS SO MAYBE THEY WILL WORK UP THERE TOO.

IF IT IS TOO COLD WHERE YOU LIVE

IF IT IS TOO COLD, KEEP IT IN YOUR GARAGE. IN THERE IT WILL BE COLD ENOUGH TO PREVENT FRUIT, BUT WARM ENOUGH TO KEEP IT ALIVE.\

ALSO IF IT FRUITS NOW YOUR SUMMER CROP WILL BE FINE
Reply:You mean "Ficus carica" plants?... They are not frost tender when become aged... Even if frozen, figs often will resprout from the roots and produce a crop the following summer.... Check the link... We have this plant in our country and they never die to the ground level in winters... G'd luck....

You drop a 5 kg package of fig newtons down a 200 meters building, what is the force of impact?

Please answer in *figs*

You drop a 5 kg package of fig newtons down a 200 meters building, what is the force of impact?
f=ma

KE=1/2mv^2

f=(5)(200)(9.8)=(9.8)1000KGM/S^2

= (9.8)1000N

= 9.8 million fig newtons

= 9.8 million figs

since 1 Newton is also equal to the weight of 1,000 fig

newtons one metre (roughly 3 feet) above sea level!

...well, I tried. I'm figged out.
Reply:Does anyone really give a fig?
Reply:F= ma = 5*9.81 = 49.05 kg.figs

kg.figs means kg x figs
Reply:the more important question is does the force of impact condense the calories

or cause them to fly away, and are they still edible?
Reply:F = ma

F = 5kg x g

F = 5 x 9.8

F = 49 figs

Why doesn't my fig trees produce figs?

It may need to be pruned to stimulate it next season. I dont know about figs but allot of fruit %26amp; nut trees need another tree of if its type to pollenate %26amp; produce fruit.

Why doesn't my fig trees produce figs?
Maybe they are all male. You need trees of each sex to get figs on the females. The male plants never have figs.
Reply:You probably need to have 2 trees in order to produce fruit!
Reply:because they r not fig tree...hehehe
Reply:Good question. Ask a green house person. I really don't know. Sorry about that. Now I am thinking about fig newton bars. yummy--sometimes.
Reply:It could be that the tree needs to get more mature. Some fruit trees are about 4-5 years old before they bear well. And is it getting enough sun? That is a major factor. I have a fig tree that is about 3 years old and it is not bearing yet. But it is getting taller and maybe next year...

My lemon trees did the same thing. Year 1--2 lemons. Year 2--0 lemons Year 3--2 lemons. Year 4 bumper crop, too many to count. Same w/ Year 5.
Reply:Depends on the species of fig trees you have.

Semen contains between 5 - 7 calories, it takes roughly 3500 extra calories in your diet to gain 1 lb of fat. At 6 calories per teaspoon, it's over 583 teaspoons of semen to make her gain 1 lb of fat. That's roughly 3/4 of a GALLON of semen!

And, not for nothing, if you're having enough sex to expell that much, you're more'n likely burning all those calories (and more) in the process!

How can I keep the birds from eating the figs on my fig tree?
try those large Tree nets
Reply:Mostly you need something to scare away the bids.

They get nervious of flashy moving things, Most professional orchards use streamers of sparlky tinsel like stuff. Wind chimes are also a decent substitute if you can't find those. Weather vanes may help a little, but I've never seen anyone put those ON a tree.

Setting up fake natural predators can also work sometimes. A few folks recommend the ceramic owls. I'd get one with the moving head if that's your plan. A lady I know swears by a large inflatable snake she puts in the tree, and moves around every other week or so. I've seen both in gardening stores.

Fake falcons or hawks might also work. I believe you can get these in "Kite" form somewhere, but you'll have to set them up every now and then, and if there's no wind you may be out of luck.
Reply:I know some people who will tie tin pie pans together to blow in the wind and make noise.

Good luck
Reply:Go to the home improvement store and buy netting to put over the plant so the birds cannot get to them. It is made for this purpose. It really works.

Can you grow a fig tree from taking a fig and smashing it in the ground and covering it with dirt ???

yes you might . but bear in mind that fig seeds need an acid environment like the one found inside birds' digestive system (birds are the best fig seeders in nature). Also, bird droppings protect the seeds from being eaten or destroyed (insects etc.)

also you should not expect the resulting tree to bear the same variety as the one where the seed came from

Can you grow a fig tree from taking a fig and smashing it in the ground and covering it with dirt ???
If you want to squash a fig into the ground make sure its been fertilised. a ripe fig is still a flower and needs insects to climb in and do their thing. when the fig is brown and sloppy and falls off the tree is probably the best time to do your squashy thing.

A better idea would be to find a mature fig tree and hunt around the base for a runner growing out of the ground. dig this up and stick it in a pot, plenty of natural compost and off it goes.
Reply:That seems a terrible waste of a perfectly good fig. From what I understand, very few figs will have any viable seeds at all. It seems to me, you should be able to remove seeds from a fig and try to plants those and eat the rest of the fig.

I baught a couple of 'figs' to try but when I cut them open I was really suprised to see that it looked like powdery dry furry coffee inside ! I didnt eat them because I assumed they would be more like a pink fruit inside...was something wrong with them or were they normal ?

What does the inside of a 'Fig' fruit look like?
Figs flower on the inside and if fresh should be sort of pink as you say, so next time they are furry inside I suggest you take them back to your supplier cos they are certainly not good.
Reply:I suppose it depends on if you purchased dried figs or fresh ones. Fresh figs have a reddish pulpy, seedy fruit inside.

If you were trying for dried figs, that might be more appropriate, but I'd say you got ripped off if the inside of your figs was furry--that sounds more like mold...

Fig Leaf Found?

A little boy opened the large old family Bible, and he looked with fascination at the ancient pages as he turned them one by one.

He was still in Genesis when something fell out of the Bible. He picked it up and looked at it closely. It was a very large old tree leaf that had been pressed between the pages of the Bible long ago."Momma, look what I found!" the boy called out.

"What do you have there?" his mother asked.

With astonishment in his voice, the young boy answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear!"

How do I make my fig tree grow away from my house?

It yeilds lots of figs every year but the biggest part of it is growing against my garage. Can I prune the big side and expect the small side to flourish? If so, how and when?

How do I make my fig tree grow away from my house?
You can prune the big side in small increments over a month or two and watch the small side carefully.

Keep the big side in shade as much as possible using tarps or building a temporary roof-like covering.

Add more sunlight to the side you want to grow since most plants bend toward sunlight. You can paint a sheet of plywood with white paint and set it to reflect sunlight on the small side.

Also, put a stake in the ground and tie a rope to the tree with pressure pulling away from the garage. Tighten the rope a little every weekend or two until the tree is leaning away from the garage.

Use moderation and make changes slowly for best results.

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree was he just having a temper tantrum?

Boo hoo, a tree doesn't give figs when it's not in season so I'm going to curse it.

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree was he just having a temper tantrum?
JESUS REBUKED THE FIG AS AN EVIL ABOMINATION.

"Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he was hungry.

"And when he saw a fig tree by the road, he came to it, and found nothing on it, but leaves only, and said to it, Let no fruit grow on you henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

"And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon has the fig tree withered away!"

--Matthew 21:18-20

JESUS COMMANDED US NOT TO EAT OF THE CURSED FIG.

"The next day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry:

"And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find any thing on it: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

"And Jesus answered and said to it, No man eat fruit of you hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.

--Mark 11:12-14

EAT A FIG, GO TO HELL.

"He destroyed their vines with hail and their sycamore-figs with sleet."

--Psalm 78:47

GOD PROMISES TERRIBLE VENGEANCE FOR FIG-EATERS.

"Yes, this is what the LORD Almighty says: "I will send the sword, famine and plague against them and I will make them like poor figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten."

--Jeremiah 29:17
Reply:Give us the Chapter and the verse. Then we'll have a good explaination.
Reply:it's supposed to be a sign that if you don't follow his teachings and open yourself up to him you will end up damned like the fig tree. personally i think it's one of those things that was added in later to make jesus seem more intense and scare people into conversion.

most likely he was just hungry and pissed that there were no figs on the fig tree.
Reply:The barren fig tree represented Israel, God's chosen people, who failed to live up to their potential.

Instead of sharing their knowledge of the one, true God with the world, they kept it to themselves, refusing even to associate with Gentiles, turning ever more inward, and becoming steeped in their own corruption.

The apostles, who were Jews, asked for a "stay" of judgment for the fig tree, suggesting that a "season" of good nurturing and proper care would turn things around.

This "stay" symbolized the 40 years between Christ's death and the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple, where God gave the apostles time to "turn things around" for the Jews, by converting them to Christianity.

As Jesus predicted, the "fig tree" still failed to bear fruit, and was finally uprooted and burned.

In the year 70 AD the Jews were chased out of Jerusalem (uprooted) by the Romans, and the Temple was destroyed by fire.

All this happened exactly one biblical generation (season) after Christ's death.

For the most part, the Jews, to this very day, still refuse to accept Jesus Christ, and many Jews practice no religion at all.

A Muslim mosque, complete with a golden dome, stands on the old Temple site, today.
Reply:According to Christian belief, he could have made the fig tree bear fruit had he wanted to. This was a demonstration of his divinity.
Reply:He was doing it to show that those that don't produce fruit will perish
Reply:He indicates why when he goes on to say: “Truly I say to you, If only you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what I did to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain [the Mount of Olives on which they are standing], ‘Be lifted up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. And all the things you ask in prayer, having faith, you will receive.”

So by causing the tree to wither, Jesus is providing for his disciples an object lesson on their need to have faith in God. As he states: “All the things you pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received, and you will have them.” What an important lesson for them to learn, especially in view of the awesome tests that are soon to come! Yet, there is another connection between the withering of the fig tree and the quality of faith.

The nation of Israel, like this fig tree, has a deceptive appearance. Although the nation is in a covenant relationship with God and may outwardly appear to observe his regulations, it has proved to be without faith, barren of good fruitage. Because of lack of faith, it is even in the process of rejecting God’s own Son! Hence, by causing the unproductive fig tree to wither, Jesus is graphically demonstrating what the end result will be for this fruitless, faithless nation.
Reply:He did it to teach us that our words are powerful and we should be careful who we curse. Words have that much power. Just think what speaking blessings would do to this world! Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Reply:a fig tree gets chopped?
Reply:you're an idiot--and not funny to boot.

Jesus never 'chopped' a fig tree. He cursed a fig tree and it died. The reason he cursed the fig tree was because it was fig season and the tree should've been bearing fruit. Instead, it bore no fruit. Jesus cursed it because it was not doing what God set it out to do in the world. It was following its own path.

Jesus meant this to be allegorical for us as Christians and the Kingdom of God. Those who don't do what the Lord wants us to do will be cursed and cast into the lake of fire. Those of us who seek the Lord's will and try with all our hearts to do His will will not suffer the same fate as the fig tree. Instead of being cursed and cast into the lake of fire we will get to spend eternity with the Lord.

If you're going to make fun of something---at least get the basic premise right.
Reply:I get to eat figs...
Reply:He kills a tree and that is not good.
Reply:He didn't chop it. He cursed it and it withered. If an atheist chops a fig tree Madelyn Murray O'hare appears and tells him he is headed to everlasting darkness like she is in now.
Reply:He wouldn't believe it fell unless it fell... on him.
Reply:If an atheist chops a fig tree in the forrest in our world today, present time, he wouldn't have to use an ax. The fig tree would not grow. A fig tree needs direct sunlight to grow. A forrest could not provide that. Please see the horticulture link.

I would guess that religion isn't the only thing an athiest doesn't believe in. Wow! Even Jesus knew that one. Guess that proves He's smarter than an athiest any old day.

Can dogs eat figs/fig newtons?? and or butternut squash????

Figs - probably

Fig Newtons - WHY?

Butternut squash - yes

Try plain old regular dog food.

Can dogs eat figs/fig newtons?? and or butternut squash????
Since I dont even now what that is, I'll say no.
Reply:The only things that I know of for sure that a dog can not eat is onions, excessive salt, and chocolate....these items are either not processed properly or are toxic to the dog's system. This is of course unless the dog has a known food allergy such as wheat, corn, barely, ect ect.
Reply:The squash is fine as long as it is plain. The fig newtons, I really don't know about figs! Personally I can't stand them.

I would think they are not the best thing to let your dog eat!
Reply:I wouldn't feed the dogs the newtons because of the sugar but my dogs get chunks of the squash when I cook and they love it.
Reply:I say if the dog like it feed him your choices in small quanties. yes I feel figs are high in sugar but one or 2 can't hurt him. worst case senerio the dog get a case of the poops this is just my opion

Jesus kills a fig tree for not bearing figs........?

, even though it was out of season. Jesus must not be as smart as Christians would have us believe, for he was retarded enough to do something this silly. You’d think the son of god (god incarnate) would know that trees don’t bear fruit in dry season. Mark 11:13

Jesus kills a fig tree for not bearing figs........?
It is obvious, an act like this shows how egoistical the nature of someone who pretends to do miracles...

I am not some anti-christian (on the contrary, I am an orthodox), but everybody has to admit the fact that a person who claims to be son of god is not expected to go to a tree unknowing there is no fruit... (he must be all-seeing, all-knowing) and this seems to show Christ's childish anger for not being as omnipotent as he wished to.

My conclusion is: the worst that could happen to a (son of) god is surprise :D
Reply:Maybe he was constipated and desparate for figs.....???? Its possible, when you get to a certain age your bowels can play havoc :P
Reply:What a great job Jesus did, -Die for our sins.

"Ha Raa"
Reply:That tree was not out of season. It had leaves on it.

Mark 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

You are the one who knows nothing about Jesus and are foolish enough to presume that you do.

Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
Reply:We don't like the word retarded over here. Go to the bottom of the class.
Reply:Deities have tempers too, you know. It's like God getting p*ssed off and taking down whole cities or all the first-born and stuff.

The fig doesn't fall very far from the tree, you know!
Reply:I am so confused, God created the tree but his son killed it? Doesn't seem like the Christian thing to do.
Reply:OK...you defiantly weren't there at the time when that happened, so we cant tell what season it was and don't know all the reasons why he did it. You cant blame God for doing something so smart that we don't understand...Hey, He has his reasons like we do too...I guess we will never understand the things of God completely...just that he is an amazing, all knowing God and knows your destiny...give God a chance...OK?
Reply:IT HAD A HIDDEN MEANING LOOK A BIT DEEPER .THE REASON WAS TO GIVE PEOPLE A MESSAGE AND I THINK HE WAS QUITE SMART.
Reply:It was an EXAMPLE. He was comparing it to Christians who don't act like Christians. Read the rest of the chapter.
Reply:He was acting out a parable...kinda hard on the tree, but the point he was making was that we have the responsibility to be growing and fruitful because we don't know when the call is going to come, we should be prepared.

Also, having dried up the tree, when the disciples saw it later they realised that Jesus really did have the power to do what he said.

He had reasons for everything he did and said, which is more than I can say for some people on this board.
Reply:the King of Kings can do as he pleases.

Remember when Jesus cursed the fig tree?

It wasn't even the right season for figs. What the hell was wrong with him?

Remember when Jesus cursed the fig tree?
He was having a bad hair day and took it out on a fig tree.
Reply:what has he got against figs just like a christian thay will hate anything
Reply:He was teaching!
Reply:so after all not everybody aren't so perfect he was of his own
Reply:He stubbed his toe, what else was he to do!
Reply:I was always told it was an apple at school, until the Christians put me right on here. Trouble is some said fig, others said pomegranate so I'm still no wiser.
Reply:The fig tree represented a certain people, and he was saying that the fig would not bare fruit, in other words would not be saved or bring others to be saved, untill the time was right. Jesus preached in parables a lot. Now you figure out who he was using the fig tree to represent.
Reply:Can I interest any Creationist in a fig...oh! who gives a fig?
Reply:When you Don't Produce, or Will not Produce or Cannot Produce, you will wither and die.

Ask alot of active working people who, when retired just stopped doing alot of things. Their work kept them producing, but when they Retired and started sitting around, they withered and died.

I know of a few.

You have to keep active in the Spiritman,in the Soul (mind, Mental Realm) in the Fleshly Man (human body).

Or you could wither.

Jesus didn't tell the Fig bush to die, HE told it you can't produce any more Fruit.
Reply:Because it beared no fruit!
Reply:The tree represents the man. When God calls him, the man must answer immediately, even if there isn't the "right season for figs". We must always be in the "right season" for following God. So, the fig tree is a man who doesn't love God and does not make anything good in his life.

I want a fig tree and I can't find them in nurseries. Can I start one from a cutting? Are the seeds in figs?

Fig trees usually come up around the big parent plants. I have friends who give away several plants each year. The "babies" go one to have fruit. If figs grow in your part of the country, look for someone who has a tree and ask for a plant when they come up in the late summer and early fall. If you can't find a parent plant, then question if they grow in your area.

I want a fig tree and I can't find them in nurseries. Can I start one from a cutting? Are the seeds in figs?
Are you sure that fig trees will survive in your climate? Maybe that's the reason local nurseries don't carry them? Ask!
Reply:Don't look... ask. Go to your favorite nursery and tell them what you want. They'll order what you ask for. I've never had a nursery tell me no.
Reply:Get a branch from a fig tree and plant it. Guaranteed to work for sure. It will be a few years until you see a fig.
Reply:you can start one from a cutting. Fig trees grow well so if you can find one growing in your area, the owner is sure to let you take a few cuttings. Most garden lovers would be pleased to share their plants.

How dry figs are made out of fresh fig fruits?

Dried Figs are Just Fresh Figs placed into a food dehydrator removing all of the moisture.

How dry figs are made out of fresh fig fruits?
There is while article about figs on Wikipedia.
Reply:all they do is set them out to dry

it makes all the moisture come out and it turns them form fresh fruit to dry fruit

Is a fig a dried-up date or is a date a dried-up fig or are they separate fruits entirely?

I always thought one was derived from the other just as raisins are dried grapes, but I've been told that I'm mistaken. Am !?

Is a fig a dried-up date or is a date a dried-up fig or are they separate fruits entirely?
They are two different fruits that are both usually dried before sale in the U.S. That's a real shame. If you ever find the fresh versions, then try them. The flavors and textures are amazing, especially the figs.

Some parts of the U.S. once banned figs because they are so succulent they must have been made by the devil to tempt mankind. I'm not kidding. That was the reasoning.
Reply:Figs and dates are two different fruits. Figs are squishy on the inside with things that look like tiny seeds. It is really fibrous. A date on the other hand is a pit fruit. It is sweet and fibrous as well. Figs can be dried and dates can be dried. Dried figs and dried dates are two separate things.

Can a Fig tree produce Olives? Can a Grapevine produce Figs? Can a Pagan Church be Christian?

The Catholic Church openly writes in its own Histories that it merged with the beliefs of the Pagans in the lands and cities it occupied by missioanry force.

Can a Fig tree produce Olives? Can a Grapevine produce Figs? Can a Pagan Church be Christian?
NO NO and NO. What book are u reading??????!!!!!
Reply:unfortunately for you, what you know of christianity all stems from catholicism.

i know. they are a cult like the jw's and mormons and they perform unholy ceremonies and sacreligious traditions. i know.

but consider this:

they are the tree. all other denominations are the fruit.

knowing this, there is only one thing you can conclude about your church. unless you want to negate scripture.
Reply:No never. Catholic church can never claim it is a Christian church. The church is a gathering of born again people worshipping God without any written rules controlled completely by Holy Spirit and also under the doctrines of BIBLE. All the other churches are only name sake christians. They grow biologically.

The real church grows spiritually
Reply:There are people who successfully combine pagan and christian beliefs and practices. One of my closest friends is a christian witch. So much of christianity depends on how you interpret the Bible and 'pagan' is such a broad term covering so many unrelated belief systems there are bound to be some that are compatible.
Reply:too bad the catholic church is the original christian church, and the so called christian churches are really the pagans.

2) My grandma is Catholic and she is the purest Christian I have ever met

3) I used to be anti-Popish but I have gained a lot of respect for the Catholics, both because of things they have done in history that people neglect, and also because they are the most devout people. Protestants are often only Christians on Sunday from 10 to 11 am, Catholics are more Christian every day.

Oh and while you're add it, Google "Yuletide and Pagan".

I think this is a case of the grape calling the olive a fig. ;)

Reply:It was an example. Israel was always represented by the Fig tree. After three years of preaching ,Israel, the fig tree was bearing no fruit. He was showing what was going to happen in the future when in 70 A.D Roman destroys Jerusalem(withers the fig tree).
Reply:Just because you fail to see the lesson in that story doesn't mean it's dumb.

"This is why I speak to them in parables: Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand. In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.' "

Matthew 13:13-14
Reply:Jesus did it as a parable.
Reply:Well, haven't you ever felt offended by a fig tree?

You know, just standing there with their roots in the ground, being all figgy and stuff...

I can't stand them!
Reply:Yes, Jesus came to earth at least partially to teach his disciples and move them to true worship. Most students of the Gospels recognize that Jesus routinely used illustrations to make his points.

.. ..(Matthew 13:34) Jesus spoke to the crowds by illustrations. Indeed, without an illustration he would not speak to them

Ironically, Jesus specifically noted that a reason for his illustrations was to confound troublemakers who sought to discredit Jesus.

.. ..(Mark 4:10-12) The twelve began questioning him on the illustrations. And [Jesus] proceeded to say to them: “To you [true Christians] the sacred secret of the kingdom of God has been given, but to those outside all things occur in illustrations, in order that, though looking, they may look and yet not see, and, though hearing, they may hear and yet not get the sense of it

.. ..(Matthew 13:11-13) [Jesus] said: “To you [humble disciples] it is granted to understand the sacred secrets of the kingdom of the heavens, but to those people [who are not humble] it is not granted. For whoever has [understanding], more will be given him and he will be made to abound; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. This is why I speak to them by the use of illustrations, because, looking, they look in vain, and hearing, they hear in vain, neither do they get the sense of it

So what illustrative purpose did it serve for Jesus to wither a fig tree that produced no fruit? The accounts at Mark chapter 11 and Matthew chapter 21 both note that the fig tree was displaying the type of leaves that should have been accompanied by additional evidence of fruit or perhaps even fruit itself. When Jesus saw the leaves without even a hint of fruit buds, Jesus recognized that the tree was barren and would never produce fruit. Thus, Jesus immediately did in a literal way with a literal tree what he had earlier prophesied would be performed in a figurative way with those ostensible worshippers who were more concerned with outward symbols of devotion than with the primary manifestations of godliness.

.. ..(Matthew 3:7-10) When [Jesus] caught sight of many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to the baptism, he said to them: “You offspring of vipers, who has intimated to you to flee from the coming wrath? So then produce fruit that befits repentance [rather than putting on a mere shown of being baptized]... Already the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree, then, that does not produce fine fruit is to be cut down

Just as a literal fig tree must produce meaningful fruit along with its ornamental leaves, so too true worshippers must do more than merely become baptized to please God and Christ.

.. ..(Matthew 21:19) [Jesus] caught sight of a fig tree by the road and went to it, but he found nothing on it except leaves only, and he said to it: “Let no fruit come from you anymore forever.” And the fig tree withered instantly.

.. ..(Luke 11:39) Now you Pharisees, you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but the inside of you is full of plunder and wickedness.
Reply:I never understood how the "benevolent and kind" Jesus could be so callous and whiny and destroy a tree for not giving him fruit. I mean seriously boohoo. it's a dam tree. curse it? that's just immature.
Reply:try to understand the deap meaning of this story, dont pretend to be dumb
Reply:I always hated that story, because it sounded so stupid to curse a tree.

Then I heard an explanation that helped it make some sense.

Apparently, the fig tree had the leaves a fig tree shows when it is bearing fruit, but it had no fruit. So Jesus cursed it.

The meaning is that if you claim to be a Christian and you bear no fruit, you suck. If you wear a Jesus lapel pin but you act like a jerk, Jesus curses you.
Reply:He cursed it in the Spring time, when it wouldn't be producing figs in any case. maybe jesus had off days like any of us, and just decided he would take it out on a tree, unlike His dad, who used to take his ire out on entire cities.... maybe we're better off with a God who gets pissed at fig trees rather than one that gets the hump with people who won't build altars to him?
Reply:Dadof4 is right with his answer, he was teaching his disciples by word and example, the way every true Christian should. (1) First lesson,You can ask God anything, according to his will, and he will grant it to you .(2) second lesson Jesus compared the nation of Israel to a fig tree,it wasn't producing any fruit, he cursed it and sure enough the fig tree withered, the same as did the nation of Israel, when the Romans destroyed it in 70 c.e. Important lessons for the apostles and any follower of Jesus, if we don't produce fruit from our preaching work,we could end up like a withered fig tree. But I also want to take this opportunity to make a point. Some Christians get surprised because Jesus cursed a fig tree. Imagine if the Bible said that Jesus during his ministry tortured children and people of all ages. more dramatic yet if he did it to sick children and young and old alike. Yet it does'nt bother their concsious to teach a sick doctrine, that says God is going to torture and torment people for all eternity

not a stupid question now was it first poster jack ss
Reply:As He killed the fig tree around 2000 years ago...He is totally capable of killing it today too...just as "You are done!"
Reply:I have this terrible feeling that you have only actually read 2 or three pages in the bible. One of them must have been when Christ made water into wine---(not fig wine) and when He passed the fig tree and was hungry and didn't find any figs....there is nothing in scripture that says He slapped the tree. And then the last thing you read must have been that He wept. Well, he actually wept as He was standing at the tomb of His friend Lazarus. I don't know anyone who has gotten those three separate events into one day. But I am sure others can pick and choose what they want as well as you can.

Please note that Jesus wasn't ANGRY. He didn't slap anything---and He made really good wine out of water----I wish I knew why Christ wept at the tomb of Lazarus because He knew He was about to raise Lazarus from the dead. Could it be that Christ knew something about Lazarus that we didn't? Could it have been better to leave Lazarus as he was? Except for the grief of the sisters He may have done just that. But what do I know.

Thanks for asking the question. You have a good day now---ya hear?

1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, 2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an *** tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. 4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ***, and a colt the foal of an ***. 6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, 7 And brought the ***, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. 8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee. 12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. 15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, 16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? 17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there. 18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. 19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. 23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? 24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? 26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. 28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. 29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. 33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: 34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. 37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. 39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. 40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? 43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

How to stop the fig tree from bearing fruits.?
Pick the figs off the tree and give them away to friends and neighbours, or ask a vendor if he /she would be interested on selling them for you .

I wish that I was your neighbour ! We are having a difficult time to keep them alive in Canada.
Reply:Put a curse on it like Jesus did. I can't remember what he said but it did the trick. It was something like, Damn tree, ain't worth squirt. This paraphrase may be a little off but you get the gist of it.
Reply:If you don't want to take the time to pick the fruit and give it away, there are volunteer programs in some communities that will pick excess or unwanted fruit to donate to local food banks and charities. Contact your local food bank or church and offer to let them take the fruit from your tree.

Here is an example of one program: http://www.thefigtree.org/april07images/...

There no way to just make it stop fruiting, so you might as well share the bounty.

My fig tree made late this year. Most of the figs are bug infested and rotten before I could pick them. Why?

The adult bug laid eggs in the flower before the fruit even appeared. They hatch into larvae when the fruit begins to ripen and eat the insides.

Check an agricultural supply store for a spray to use at the flowering stage. Be careful with poisons!

Our fig tree has figs but they don't ripen - they just remain hard and green. What can I do?

Might have something to do with the weather. This year our peaches did the same thing (we had one night of freeze that was not planned). I would try a fertilizer made just for fruit trees. That is what I am going to try ~ it can't hurt. Good luck.

Never fertilize a sick plant. Call an arborist, or wait 'til next year.

Are Figs fattening? And how many calories are there in a fig?

And I was also wondering if you could tell me about the most fattening fruits and vegetables plz and thank you.=)

Are Figs fattening? And how many calories are there in a fig?
Figs are high in carbohydrates (sugars) can be fattening if you don't use the calories. A fruit snack about an hour before exercising is a really good idea!

Bananas are not fattening, but they have more carbs than watery fruits, and overweight people should count one banana as 2 servings of fruit.

The carbs are about the same in bananas and fresh figs. Figs are smaller than bananas, so one fig is still one serving of fruit :)

Fresh figs have 74cal.*,1% protein, 19% carbs, 3% fiber and 0,3% fat.

In comparison bananas have 89cal.*, 1% protein, 23% carbs, 3% fiber, 0,3% fat.

Dried figs have 249cal.*, 3% protein 64% carbs., 10% fiber, and 1% fat.

Are figs fattening? Only if you don't use the carb-energy ;)

*) Cal. per 100 grams or 3 ounces
Reply:Three figs, fresh or dried, contain about five grams of fibre. The soluble fibre contained in Figs can help people cut down on snacking because it causes nutrients to be absorbed more slowly, making people feel more satisfied after a meal. However, it should be remembered that Figs are high in calories(there are about 50 calories in a fig but they are highly nutricious). The only fruit I know of that is high in fat is the avocado. The average medium sized avocado contains about 30 grams of fat and 300 calories.

hope it helped :)

Do fig newtons really taste like figs, or do they just put tons of sugar in it?

They really taste like figs. I hate them personally.

Do fig newtons really taste like figs, or do they just put tons of sugar in it?
i love the taste of fresh figs and think there's a world of difference b/w fresh figs and fig newtons even though fig newtons can be addictive. so i agree, it's the sugar!
Reply:Why don't you go buy a fig and do an official taste test.

I doubt Nabisco could get away with calling them Fig Newtons if they didn't contain, and taste like, figs. Too many lawyers out there.
Reply:Real figs are very sweet, but Nabisco puts extra sugar in those cookies anyway. Food manufacturers put extra sugar, salt, etc. in everything. Check out a jar of applesauce. Are there people out there that actually think an apple is not sweet enough? The Fig Newtons taste like figs though.
Reply:They really do have figs in them, but that doesn't mean the sugar isn't there too.
Reply:The only thing figs and Fig Newtons have in common are the seeds. I like Newtons, but nothing compares to a fresh fig. It's a different kind of sweet, a natural fresh sweet, not refined sugar sweet.
Reply:Yes, they taste like dried figs but with lots of sugar.
Reply:Fig newtons are crap.. The quality of their product has gone so far down hill in the past 10 years. They use to be moist and tasty now they are dry and bitter...
Reply:Comparing fresh figs to Fig Newtons is like comparing great drama by a talented group of actors to a school play put on by elementary students who have no interest in performing on stage.

Or it's like your favorite food. If you eat it yourself, it's wonderful. If your grandmother prechews it for you and spits it on your plate so you can eat it in a prechewed form, it just doesn't taste the same. It is the same food, but grandma's prechewed version is missing a lot.

If you ever get a chance to eat fresh Black Mission figs, you'll notice a world of difference. The fresh figs are moist, perfectly sweet and addictive. Fig Newtons are a totally different thing.

Scientific Notation and Sig Fig help?

How would you put them in scientific notation?

1. 20.0890

2. 199.900

3. 35,000

Round off these numbers until you get to 3 sig figs.

1. 20.0890

2. 199.900

3. 35,000

Thank You! I have my first Chem. test tommarow!

Scientific Notation and Sig Fig help?
Scientific Notation:

1. 20.0890

If you want to turn this into scientific notation, you see where the decimal place is? Move that little dot to the left or right so that you only have 1 digit on the left. So, since it is 20.0890, you can move the DOT one place to the left and you have 2.00890

Now since you moved it over 1 place, it is 2.0089 * 10^1

If you want to test it, you can do the math and you will see that if you times 2.0089 by 10^1, you will get the original answer.

2. 199.900

With this one, you are going to have to move that little decimal POINT to the LEFT two place to get the first digit by itself. You would now have 1.99900

BUT, you have to times that by some POWER of 10. Since you moved it over 2 places, it would be 1.999 * 10^2

You see how I raise the ten to the number of times I moved the decimal point over?

3. 35,000

For this one, you have to add your own decimal point since it is not given to you.

You probably know that 35,000 is the SAME as 35,000.0 (that POINT 0 doesn't affect the number at all, right?) To get the first digit by itself, move that decimal point to the LEFT 4 times. You would now have 3.5, but then you have to times that by 10^4 (you moved it over 4 times)

Sig Figs:

1. 20.0890

Rounding Sig Figs is basically the same as rounding any number. Since you have to round it to THREE sig figs, you can start with the first REAL number (don't count zeros!), in this case it is 2. Then, go over 3 figures and you are at the second 0. Now, you know that that 2nd 0 is the one you are going to have to round. Since the number to the RIGHT of that 0 is GREATER than 5, you round up!

The answer would be 2.01.

Do you get it?

2. 199.900

With this one, start with the 1 as your first sig fig. Then move over 2 (so you moved over 3 total) and you are at the 2nd 9. Since the number to the RIGHT of that 9 is GREATER than 5, you would round it up. Since 9 can't round up to another number, you have to also round the number to the left of it. Since that number is a 9 as well, you have to round up the number to the left of THAT, until you get to a lower number.

The answer would be 200 because of the rounding.

3. 35,000

For this one, the answer isn't any different. There are only TWO sig figs in this number to begin with. Any place holders (like 000,000,000) don't count as sig figs. Since this only has 2 figures, it just stays the same

:)

To round this "0.00250" to 3 significant figures, you would go to the first REAL number, like before. Since 0s don't count as real numbers WHEN THEY ARE AT THE START, you would start with 2 as the first sig fig. Move over 3 and you are at the 0. Since there are no numbers to the LEFT of 0, you don't have anything to round and your answer stays the same

The answer is .00250 :)
Reply:1. 2.0089 X 10 to the first power

2. 1.999 x 10 to the second power

3 3.5 x 10 to the fourth power

rounding:

1 20.089

2. 199.900

3 35,000

You think maybe cursing the fig tree was rather petulant on Jesus' part?

Mark 11:13; Matthew 21:19

Hi, everybody, I'm Saint Lurid, and I'm wondering what was up with that?

I mean, it wasn't even the season for figs, and Jesus didn't find any figs on the tree, and cursed it?

Does that maybe tell you something?

.

You think maybe cursing the fig tree was rather petulant on Jesus' part?
Fig trees can be very disrespectful and rude

Have you ever tried to have a conversation with one?
Reply:It was the season for figs, and the rest of the text, that was not read that is the most vital of this message is..Jesus is telling us point blank, have faith and you can also do this

Since Jesus grew up in this area, and that he made that fig tree, he knows your heart as well.

Cast the doubt, out of your mind, of the maybies.
Reply:The fig tree is Israel and the Bible is filled with types and shadows.

In 70 AD the Roman general Titus destroyed Jerusalem as Jesus predicted.

Israel was cursed from the roots up, but as we see it is prospering again.

The roots were still there.

Jesus told them to learn a parable of the fig tree and he showed his power with that one fig tree when he found no fruit on it that whether it was the season or not, he is God

and Israel had missed their time of visitation and judgment must come.
Reply:Yeah, don't mention figs around Jesus. lol My uncle fell from a fig tree when he was about 3 and began having grand mal seizures. He has been in a state school most of his life because of it. Weird. I never thought about it before. I don't believe in coincidence. Nice to meet you.
Reply:Jesus was a racist. He blamed fig trees for all of society's problems.
Reply:The act of a narcisisst.
Reply:Jesus being racist against fig trees... This entire question has made my day. Star for you.
Reply:SO, how would you feel if you went on a date with this beautiful woman and then................found out she was a he?

Do you like figs? I'm not talking fig newtons but figs.?

My dad actually grows figs in his backyard (figs do not grow in Canada either) and every Fall he buries them and every Spring he digs the trees back up. We have green figs and purple ones...we just had a great "eat" of the green ones and now it's almost time for the purple ones...they are the ones everyone fights over! LOL

In Italy when we went (many, many moons ago) the fig trees were literally HUGE like pear or apple trees and the figs were pretty well the size of a good large pear too.

Reply:YES I do! They're expensive here, but they are such a nice treat! Ummm, great for curing rock poo, too!

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree?

Althought it was not the season for figs?

Mar 11:13 For it was not the season for figs.

Why did Jesus curse the fig tree?
The evangelist's statement is somewhat puzzling—until we understand the growth and reproductive cycles of fig trees. Notice the following interesting information about the fig season in Palestine:

It has been asked, 'How could our Lord expect to find ripe figs in the end of March?' Answer, Because figs were ripe in Judea as early as the Passover. Besides, the fig tree puts forth its fruit first, and afterwards its leaves. Indeed, this tree, in the climate which is proper for it, has fruit on it all the year round, as I have often seen.

Fruit tree growers know that ordinarily a small amount of fruit ripens prior to the main crop. It is referred to as the first ripe fruit or the firstfruits. When Jesus approached the tree, it was the time of the firstfruits of figs, but it was not yet time for the main harvest. Mark 11:13 must mean that the particular tree on which Christ expected to find figs was barren, because it had no figs on it at all. It did not fulfill its purpose, and as any diligent orchardist would do, Jesus simply eliminated an unproductive tree, not with an ax or a saw, but by faith. (Compare Luke 13:6-9)

Jesus used this incident to teach His disciples—and all Christians today—that the outward appearance does not count with God. Instead, what really counts is whether or not one produces godly fruit in his or her life (John 15:8, 16; Galatians 5:22-23).
Reply:Dude, why do you choose an answer from someone who called "Allah"as the moon god. Report It

Reply:He was just showing off in a demonstration.
Reply:The fig tree bears fruit before it grows leaves. Because, the tree had no fruit but did have leaves. In Cursing the tree, Jesus was telling us that if we do not bear the fruit of the spirit, which is Love, Joy, Peace, Patients, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control, we are not following Him. He says that He is the vine and we are the branches.
Reply:And your point is? Are you feeling sorry for the fig tree? Or are you missing the message that Jesus was wanting to teach His disciples? Read on the passage and you would know that Jesus was using a "visual aid" to teach His disciples another lesson on having faith. Some Bible teachers opined that there are other implications in this event and have various views on what the fig tree (usually used as a metaphor for Israel) and the fruits mean. But from the text itself Jesus was using an object lesson to teach about having faith.
Reply:Did he stub his toe on one?
Reply:The passage is referring to the gathering of the figs, not the fact that the season of fruit appearing on the fig trees had not yet come.

When Christ saw this fig tree by the way-side, apparently flourishing, he went to it to gather some of the figs: being on the way-side, it was not private, but public property; and any traveler had an equal right to its fruit.

As it was not as yet the time for gathering in the fruits, and yet about the time when they were ready to be gathered, our Lord with propriety expected to find some. But as this happened about five days before that passover on which Christ suffered, and the passover that year fell on the beginning of April, it has been asked, “How could Christ expect to find ripe figs in the end of March?”

Answer:

Because figs were ripe in Judea as early as the passover. Besides, the fig tree puts forth its fruit first, and afterwards its leaves. Indeed, this tree, in the climate which is proper for it, has fruit on it all the year round.

All the difficulty in the text may be easily removed by considering that the climate of Judea is widely different from that of Great Britain. The summer begins there in March, and the harvest at the passover, as all travelers into those countries testify; therefore, as our Lord met with this tree five days before the passover, it is evident, - 1st. That it was the time of ripe figs: and, 2ndly. That it was not YET the time of gathering them, because this did not begin till the passover, and the transaction here mentioned took place five days before.
Reply:12The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it.
Reply:Jesus used this incident to teach His disciples—and all believers today—that the outward appearance does not count with God. Instead, what really counts is whether or not one produces godly fruit in his or her life (John 15:8, 16; Galatians 5:22-23).
Reply:It is a parable against unfruitfulness and unrealized power. Jesus asserts his power over Nature. See also Matthew 21:18-22. Jesus continues teaching this theme in Mark 12.
Reply:I guess you're talking about when Adam and Eve sinned, right? Well, no one actually knows which kind of fruit tree Eve ate from, but we know that it was not actually "cursed." God cursed Satan who was disguised as a snake by making all of the snakes slither on their bellies. (one day God will cast Satin into hell)

I hope this answered your question!
Reply:The Crow (Algorab) was too late at the fig tree and came back with a lie in his beak about the truth.

I did not know that Jesus could "curse" a tree but if he did I believe it was because the fig tree hid the serpent, and the leaf of the fig tree was used to hide nudity after the figs were gone.

Go on, people, put as many thumb down to anybody as you wish!

Do you think I care ?
Reply:cause he was a cry baby who wanted a fig but was too stupid to know that figs werent there so he cursed at the tree
