Why did Jesus kill a fig tree for not producing figs out of season?

The next day..., Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." ... In the morning..., they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter ... said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree ... has withered!"

-- Mark 11:12-14, 20-21 (NIV)

Why would Jesus look for figs if it wasn't fig season?

Why would he kill the tree for acting as it was designed?

Did somebody really tick him off that day?

Why did Jesus kill a fig tree for not producing figs out of season?

Reply:He did it to show two lessons to his disciples.(1) to show that they should have faith without doubting. Mark 11:21-24. (2) and second , the fig tree represented the nation of Israel, which was not producing hardly any fruit, by not accepting him as the Messiah and Son of God. Jehovah cursed the Jewish nation by inflicting upon them punishment, when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem the capitol of Israel in 70 C.E. Luke 13:6-9 Luke 21:20,21 also God's favor would be passed to another nation that would produce good fruit or Spiritual Israel. Mathew 21:43
Reply:HEY! I was about to ask that question!

(Hope you get a halfway sane answer.)

I think most of you are missing the point. The tree was OUT OF SEASON; it WASN'T SUPPOSED to have any figs at that time. Why condemn a tree for behaving exactly as designed? Shouldn't Jesus, the God of the universe, have known that figs were out of season?

Reply:Because the fig tree is used as a symbol of Israel in scripture, it is possible that it was related to the cleansing of the temple that follows. Israel was in full leaf, but bore no fruit.

It is admittedly, a difficult passage to know....
Reply:It was a metaphor.

Jesus is so awesome. He died for our sins. If we happened to be born before Jesus came and we worked on the sabbath, we die. Luckily God chose to let us be born after so we can live!

Thanks, God for letting me be born after Jesus came so I can work on Sunday without dying!

You're awesome!
Reply:It was likely used as an analogy that God may visit his people any time to judge whether they bear fruit or not, perhaps as a prophetic symbol of his return, which will basically be unexpected. Very interesting indeed.
Reply:Makes as much sense as killing person who was born gay because they acted on their homosexuality.
Reply:No, he was just like his "daddy", he killed when he was unhappy.
Reply:No one told me this, but I personally believe there is in there a teaching for me, that I can nip things in the bud.
Reply:He was hungry and then He taught His followers with this..

Christians can wither when not fed...see?

Reply:The bible says we must give fruit in season and out of season. We must be ready for whenever He needs us.
Reply:Why did Jesus curse that tree since, as Mark explains, “it was not the season of figs”? Well, when a fig tree bears leaves, normally it also produces early figs. It was unusual for a fig tree to have leaves at that time of year. But since it had leaves, Jesus rightly expected to find figs on it. The fact that the tree had borne only leaves meant that it would be unproductive. Its appearance was deceptive. Since fruit trees were taxed, an unfruitful tree was an economic burden and needed to be cut down.

Jesus used that unfruitful fig tree to illustrate a vital lesson regarding faith. The following day, his disciples were surprised to see that the tree had already withered. Jesus explained: “Have faith in God, All the things you pray and ask for have faith that you have practically received, and you will have them.” (Mark 11:22-24) In addition to illustrating the need to pray in faith, the withered fig tree graphically showed what would happen to a nation lacking faith.

Some months earlier Jesus had compared the Jewish nation to a fig tree that had been unfruitful for three years and would be cut down if it remained unproductive. By cursing the fig tree just four days before his death, Jesus showed how the Jewish nation had not produced fruits befitting repentance and thus was in line for destruction. Though that nation, like the fig tree, superficially appeared healthy, a closer look revealed a lack of faith that culminated in the rejection of the Messiah, Jesus..

Like the unproductive fig tree that looked healthy, the Jewish nation had a deceptive outward appearance. But it had not produced godly fruitage, and it finally rejected Jehovah’s own Son. Jesus cursed the sterile fig tree, and on the following day, the disciples noticed that it had already withered. That dried-up tree aptly signified God’s forthcoming rejection of the Jews as his chosen people.
Reply:Jesus cursed the tree, causing it to wither. Why? Solely because of its deceptive appearance? Evidently Jesus’ act had a more vital purpose. It was really an object lesson for the benefit of his disciples.

Additionally, the tree itself could well represent the ancient Jewish nation, which had an appearance of being fruitful in view of its covenant relationship with Jehovah God, and because of the Jewish religious leaders’ showy display of self-righteousness. (Matt. 6:5; 23:25-28) However, the nation had failed to produce good fruitage to God’s glory. It rejected Jesus Christ, the very one sent by God and revealed to be God’s Son by his miracles and teachings. But why did the nation reject Jesus? Because of lack of faith in God’s Word. (Luke 13:5-9) Consequently the faithless, unrepentant nation was to wither and die much like the unproductive fig tree.—Matt. 21:43.

We today can benefit from the lesson taught by Jesus’ cursing of the fig tree. Were we to lose faith in God’s ability to answer the prayers of his servants and to reward those earnestly seeking him, this would lead to our rejection, to our being cursed like unproductive fig trees. (John 15:2-6; Heb. 6:7, 8) God’s Word tells us: “Without faith it is impossible to please [God] well, for he that approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.”—Heb. 11:6.

I hope this helps!
Reply:Better to make an illustration on a fig tree than on you or me?

If you read further in the scriptures you will find out the illustration he perfectly illustrated, before you cut short and make you own reasonings lol .

Jesus even forgave us and those that crucified him on the cross, nails in his hands, he doesnt yield to sin.'

but with your mind you will try and dig up whatever you can, one day you will kneel before him, oh yes you will either in this life or at the judgement seat, and if its after death it will be to hell weeping forever, and always remember probably the fig tree, that you could have been instead of the cursed one with withered roots. weeping and gnashing teeth forever for rejecting Jesus salvation to be the tree with fruit in all seasons Psalm 1 and hell is in this part what i quoted from Matthew 24:51

Congrats so far your well on the way to where I was heading, I was raised and am a Jew by birth now in amazing grace
