Oatmeal cookies cost 45 cents each and fig bars cost 30 cents each. If the group spent $7.35 how many oatmeal?

cookies were purchased if they numbered 7 less than the number of fig bars purchased

Oatmeal cookies cost 45 cents each and fig bars cost 30 cents each. If the group spent $7.35 how many oatmeal?
.45(x-7) +.30x = 7.35 .45x-3.15+.30x = 7.35

10.50 = .75x x=14 So the group bought 7 oatmeal and 14 fig bars.
Reply:Let x= #oatmeal

Let y = #figbars

Then we know y = x+7 (seven more figs)

7.35 = 0.45 x + 0.30 y ===%26gt; plug in y=x+7 from above

7.35 = 0.45x + 0.30 (x+7) ===%26gt; now solve

7.35 = 0.45x +0.30x +7*0.30

7.35 = 0.75x + 2.10

5.25 = 0.75 x

x = 7

plug in y = x+7 = 7+7 = 14

7 oatmeal cookies and 14 fig bars

=] YUM!

check 7@45 and 14@30 = 315 +420 = 725 =] yep!
